Happy New Year!

Posted on January 3, 2010 with 0 comments

The first day of 2010 was quite an amazing day for me. I spent my New Year’s Eve celebrating with my wife and a bunch of our good friends at a great party in Downtown LA. We rang in the New Year together while dancing to a killer DJ sets by our friends Jacques the Ripper and FatFinger among others. Afterward, we all went back to a friend’s house and watched the first glimpse of the sun’s rays hit the valley from the view in his hot tub. Shortly after that, I realized that we needed to get home and get some sleep because we had booked a last minute gig for me that afternoon.

After getting some much needed sleep, I drove downtown to go play for a wedding at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Since this was booked at the last minute, I didn’t have any info about what music they wanted played until I got there. Luckily, they had looked at my wedding repertoire list on my website and marked which songs they wanted me to play, so they just gave me the list and I was off and running. The couple was very nice and wonderful to work with, but it was still a lot of pressure to play for the ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner! In the end, everything went well and the Bride, Groom and guests were all quite pleased with my performance. And, they thanked me with a very generous tip!

From there, I drove back to our dear friends’ house where my wife and other friends had been carrying on in their celebration. It was a relaxed and joyous gathering of friends, food, drinks, music and dancing into the night! I was so happy to be in the company of good friends and my darling wife, as we enjoyed the first night of 2010 together.

A good friend once told me that he believes that whatever you do for the first 24 hours of the New Year will set the tone for the rest of your year. That sounds like a reasonable belief to me. So with that in mind, I am looking forward to a year filled with many piano performances, love, well-paying gigs, and really wonderful friends!
